Conrad G. Tessier

April 8, 1933 - July 22, 2015

Augusta, Maine - Conrad G. "Toots" Tessier, 82, a longtime resident of North Turner, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, following a brief stay at Maine Veteran Homes. He was born in Livermore Falls, April 8, 1933, the son of Hector and Flora (Morrisette) Tessier. He attended Livermore Falls schools where he played football and graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1952. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Army overseas. After the war he continued his service as a reservist and then as member of the Maine Guards. After the war, he attended the University of Maine, Orono. He then relocated to California, where he worked and lived for a number of years. From California he became a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in Washington DC and in Tehran, Iran. After returning to Maine, he taught at Jay and Livermore Falls High schools. On June 22, 1968, he married Nancy Ann Melvin in Lewiston. They lived in North Turner for 45 years. Conrad worked over three decades for local manufacturers in Central and Western Maine, retiring from Knapp Shoe in 1997. He enjoyed spending time working on the old homestead in North Turner, attending to his plentiful vegetable gardens, and making home brew. Also ice fishing, horn pout fishing, barbequing, and watching any sporting event were enjoyable pastimes. Survivors include his wife Nancy of North Turner; son Anthony and his wife Kendra of Windham; daughter Sarah Tessier-Roy, her husband Brian, and granddaughters Samantha and Gabby of North Turner; sister Jacqueline Conzemius and her husband Robert of Ames, Iowa; sister in law Leona McLain and her husband Roland of Auburn; brother in law Daniel J. Melvin and his wife Betty of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Paul in 2003, Hervey in 2006, and Norman in 2012. A beloved husband, dad, papa, and brother he will live on in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank the kind caregivers from AHCH, private caregiver Janet, Seniors Plus, Catholic Charities, and Victorian Villa Day Services for supporting his quest to stay home as long as possible. Mr. Conrad G. Tessier age 82 years a resident of North Turner. Graveside committal prayers followed by military honors will be held FRIDAY July 31st 2:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mt. Hope Ave., Lewiston. Memorial donations in Conrad's name may be made to either Seniors Plus Meals on Wheels or Alzheimer's respite programs.
