Thomas Asselin

February 11, 1920 - May 19, 2009

LEWISTON - Thomas Asselin, 89, a resident of 26 Theresa Avenue died Tuesday, May 19th at the St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion. He was born in Brewer, February 112, 1920, the son of Fidelis and Dora (Coro) Eslin. Tom served in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II from October 20, 1941 until November 29, 1945 where he was awarded the Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Battle Stars, a Bronze Invasion Arrowhead as well as a Pacific Theater Ribbon. He married the former Winnie Pelletier on November 6, 1948 at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Lewiston. He was employed many years locally as a hand sewer until his early seventies. Tom was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 153 as well as the Purple Heart and Disabled Veteran Associations. Survivors include his wife, Winnie of Lewiston, two sons, Daniel Asselin and wife Karen of Lewiston; Robert Asselin and wife, Denise of New Gloucester; three granddaughters, Cynthia Grimmett and husband, Craig of North Waterboro; Shelly Dustin and fiancee Ken Grumann of Sanford; and Lisa Asselin of Homer, Alaska. Two great grandchildren, Alysson and Nathaniel; brothers, Bill Asselin of Lewiston, Ralph Asselin of Auburn, and Joe Asselin of Fruitland, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Rose Lizotte, Dorothy Bellmore, Patricia Bouche, JoAnne Asselin, and Paul Eslin. ASSELIN died in Lewiston, May 19, 2009, Mr. Thomas Asselin age 89 years a resident of Lewiston. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial honoring Tom's life will be celebrated TUESDAY 11:00AM in the Upper Church of the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul of the Prince of Peace Parish. Committal prayers with military honors to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations in Tom's memory may be made to either Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, ME 04240 or to St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion Rehab Center 102 Campus Avenue, Lewiston, Me 04240 Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at www.lynchbrothers.com Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday morning from 9:00 until the time of Mass at church.
