Pastor Robert L. Giguere

January 24, 1932 - July 31, 2021

Pastor Robert L. Giguere, 89, The faithful husband, fantastic father, precious pastor, gentle lion, consummate leader answered the call to go home on a sunny Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 2:20 PM where he met his Lord and Savior face to face. He was born in Lewiston, Maine January 24, 1932, the son of Conrad and Irene (Roy) Giguere. During his childhood years he spent his summers at the family camp in Wales on Sabattus lake. He was educated in the Lewiston School system and as a young boy was fluent in French more than English. In high school he was a standout athlete lettering in both ice hockey and football. He also excelled in track and field. He graduated from Lewiston High School, class of 1952, and went to further his education at the University of Maine in Orono graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He served in the US Navy for a short time and was honorably discharged. He started his teaching career in September 1956 at Jordan High School. He later taught at Montello Junior High as the Health and Biology instructor. Many thousands of students had Mr. Giguere as their teacher and still today people would recognize him. He also taught at the Lewiston Middle School, as a Physical Education teacher, he retired after a 28-year career. On August 24, 1957 he married the love of his life, Beverly In 1958. They bought their first home in Sabattus and their son Scott was born in 1958, and then in 1959 their daughter Julie. In 1962 they bought their second home, one of the cottages that CMP owned at Gulf Island Avenue. They have resided at this location for 59+ years. Between 1965-1970 three more sons Jim, Steve and Rick were added to the family. To keep the expanding family going, he worked part time while teaching at Fox and Ginn and Canada Dry. He also worked at Holiday Lanes Bowling Alley at Northwood Park and when that closed and became a theatre, he also worked there. During the summer he worked on the crews for Central Maine Power Company. He did that for many years. He met Pastor Richard Baril while working for CMP and came to know Jesus Christ through Pastor Dicks sharing of the word at lunch times. On August 9, 1975 at 9:31 PM he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord as his Savior and there was no turning back! He had an almost Saul of Tarsus conversion, minus the donkey, but he saw the bright light. He began to study the scriptures intently, studied theology at Maryland Bible College and Seminary, he was ordained a Minister of the Gospel and became an associate Pastor at The Good News Chapel on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. He was also ordained through The Bible Speaks ministries and Greater Grace World Outreach. In early 1980 the Lord called him to start his own work and there the articles of incorporation were formed for The Fellowship Church. They worshipped at several locations early on and in 1991 broke ground off Sawyer Road in Greene where he pastored for many years retiring in 2006. The church still strives today. He also did missionary work in France, Russia and Newfoundland. He served as the Chaplain at the Androscoggin County Jail for 36 years where he ministered to hundreds of men and women who had lost their way. He had a wonderfully blessed and full life. He loved the ocean and vacationed many times during the working years in Jonesport, Maine. He and Bev owned a camp on the Eustis Ridge for many years. He leaves behind his wife Bev of almost 64 years, children Scott, Julie, Jim (Janet), Steve, Rick (Megan) and three grandchildren, Julia, Ethan and Isabella. Also, a host of church family members. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Dorothy and husband Bill Hollis and bother Jerry. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Fellowship Church building fund at 9 Bergeron Road Greene, Maine 04236 in his memory. As dad/pastor would say, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32
