Richard James Ryan

March 11, 1940 - January 8, 2016

Springfield- On January 8, 2016, the Lord welcomed Richard James Ryan home. Born in Quincy Massachusetts on March 11, 1940. He lived in Marshfield, Massachusetts until the age of 8, when his family moved to Monmouth, Maine & he attended the Monmouth School systems. He worked at the Monmouth saw mill until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1960, where he was a mechanic on the B-52's stationed at Dow Air Force Base. After his discharge from the Air Force he went on to work for General Dynamics in Quincy, Mass, then later worked as a painting contractor in the Boston area. In April of 1968, Richard married Mary Buzzell & lived briefly in Massachusetts & later settled in Leeds, Maine to raise their 3 children. After moving to Maine, he worked in various locations including Boucher Bros Painting, Copp Motors & Cumberland Salvage, before resuming his passion as a painting contractor. He painted everything from Penstocks to homes, working alongside his family. Even after retiring at the age of 62, he continued working, later settling with his wife of 47 years at The Hundred Acre Woods in Carroll Plantation where they worked their dream together. Richard is survived by his wife Mary, his son Richard Ryan II & his wife Corinne, his daughter Laurel Frost & her husband Pete & his son John Ryan, 10 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Robert Ryan & 3 sisters Clair Hannon, Miriam Charlton & Cathy Chadburn & her husband Paul & many nieces & nephews. Richard is pre deceased by his parents Gordon & Clara Ryan, 3 brothers, John Ryan, Thomas Ryan & Charles Ryan & a nephew Gary Chadburn. Richard/Dad/Grampy/Papa- You are sadly missed by all of us who love you. You've made a positive impact on many more then you could have known. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday Jan. 14th at 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop. Burial to be held later in the spring. Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway Lewiston, ME 04240. 784-4023
