Michael James Shaw
March 28, 1951 - January 7, 2022
Michael James Shaw, 70, a resident of Auburn, died Friday January 7, 2022, with his family at his bedside at St Mary’s Hospital following a long battle with chronic illness. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on March 28, 1951, the son of Ralph Irving Shaw, and Doris Ida (Hines) Shaw. Mike graduated from Edward Little High School, in 1970, and went to work at Fimbel Overhead Doors in Lewiston. January of 1971, he married Gloria (Brousseau) Thomas, enlisted into the Air Force, and was sent to Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas until discharging from the Airforce in 1975, with fond memories of his travels From Las Vegas to Maine, and other parts of the western half. Returning to the L/A Maine area, he enlisted into the Army National Guard Reserves, and continued his service until 1977, maintaining various jobs as a factory worker, and mechanic. Divorcing Gloria in 1980, he struggled with alcoholism, finding himself homeless. Determined on April 28, 1987, to build a new life, future, and legacy for his grandchildren, he checked himself into Rehab. In 1991, he met his life partner Jenny Guy, together they established a home, raised a family, and defeated his battle with alcoholism, remaining sober for 34 years. Employed at Bath Iron Works, January of 1988 till May of 2018 when he retired. Together Mike and Jenny, enjoyed camping, traveling, and any and all family holidays and gatherings. Known for his stories from his hell raising days, or those of the many stupid other drivers, he has met on the roads. He could most often be found making others laugh, as he told a story. Passionate, humorous, and honest, even political debates with him, were enjoyable, and most often ended with laughter. Except Facebook, his political commenting, and stories usually had him serving time in Facebook jail. Patriotic, gun carrying, knife toting, family man, he was always just a phone call away, any time day or night. Whether you needed him there, or not he was always there, and usually arrived first to the scene. Survived by his daughter Rhonda Murray and her husband Walton Murray of Richmond, son Jesse Shaw and his partner Christina Estabrook of Woolwich, son Dustin Shaw and his partner Katie Reed of Auburn, daughter Carrie Rose Shaw of Auburn, and his son Lee Guy and his wife Sierra Guy of Florida; Six grandchildren Nancy Murray and her partner Mike, Melinda Murray and her partner Wesley, Walton Jr Murray, Jaedyn Stewart, Issac Shaw, and Finn Guy; 7 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
