Max Theodore Lauten Jr

May 9, 1954 - November 5, 2021

Lewiston- On Friday, November 5, 2021, Max Theodore Lauten, Jr., cherished husband and father of two daughters, died at age 67 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, due to complications from COVID-19. His many friends and relatives knew him as Ted, and they will greatly mourn his loss. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Dale (Rioux) Lauten; his daughter, Lori Lauten, her husband, Brandon Bari, and his children; his daughter, Sheri Lauten Van Someren, and her husband, Charles; his sister and brother-in-law, Marion and James Seeley; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful Labrador, Hawkeye. A lifelong resident of Maine, Ted was born on May 9, 1954, in Lewiston to Max T. Lauten and Elsie Murchison Lauten. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Armand Girardin; and two nephews and a niece. He attended Lewiston High School and held a variety of jobs during his life which inspired a great many stories, often told repeatedly. He drove a concrete truck for many years and, later, anyone riding with him would often hear the refrain, “I poured that!” As a younger man, he served briefly as a police officer, and later as a volunteer firefighter in Mechanic Falls. He worked in a variety of roles at Bushmaster Firearms and then more recently at Windham Weaponry, but he enjoyed being a driver most of all. Ted was known for tinkering around the house he built in Poland; loving war movies and “NCIS” and lending a helping hand to friends in need. He often would recommend “going for a drive,” an activity that could result in him and his family ending up hours away. Together with his wide circle of friends, Ted was an avid camper, hunter, and follower of Bruins hockey and Patriots football. Ted never met a stranger, enjoyed building his reputation as a jokester, and usually was the life of any party. His infectious laugh and grin will be missed by all who knew him. Due to the already devastating impact of COVID-19 on the family, a private graveside committal will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Lewiston. A celebration of Ted’s life will be arranged for the spring: please contact the family for more information. His family especially thanks the St. Mary’s ICU staff for their support and exceptional care for Ted during his final battle. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home Lewiston, ME 784-4023.
